Vineyards

In producing our wines, we believe that it is fundamentally critical to use the finest grapes available.  We make no compromise in selecting and sourcing the best grapes at the top vineyards.  The vineyards that we source from are not only established, time-tested and proven, but renown for their extraordinary quality.  Our vineyards include:

Neal 3 Vineyard, Napa Valley

The esteemed Neal 3 vineyard is owned and managed by Mark Neal, a grower well-known in Napa Valley for the exceptional quality of his vineyards. The rocky and gravelly soil of the Neal 3 vineyard is located in St. Helena, adjacent to the highly-regarded Hourglass Vineyard.  As at Hourglass, the Neal 3 vineyard is planted to the “see” clone—a clone known for creating deep and structured wines.

Ink Grade Vineyard, Howell Mountain, Napa Valley

The Ink Grade vineyard stands atop the Vaca Mountain Range on the eastern side of Howell Mountain.  The high elevation results in daytime temperatures that are cooler and evening temperatures that are slightly warmer than the Napa Valley floor. The Ink Grade vineyard, which was planted in 1990, stretches across 200 acres of steeply-terraced mountainous terrain.  The vines are planted to a quad trellis and yield only between 2 and 2.5 tons per acre. The vineyard’s iron rich red clay and decomposed volcanic ash encourages vines to produce small berries with incredibly intense flavors, deeply structured notes and robust tannins.

Young Inglewood Vineyard, Napa Valley

The highly sought-after fruit of the Young Inglewood vineyard springs from a rocky and gravelly bench in St. Helena.  The vineyard is located a mere mile south of Andy Beckstoffer’s Dr. Crane Vineyard. The Cabernet Sauvignon is planted to Clone 337, which produces berries that are extremely small and powerful—resulting in intensely flavored wines that are deep purple/black in color and have strong fruit and spring flower aromas and flavors, which are rounded by supple tannins.

Coombsville Vineyard, Napa Valley

East of the town of Napa, Coombsville Vineyard is cooled by the fog and breezes blowing off San Pablo Bay. The 65-acre site is planted to Bordeaux varietals on gently sloping terrain. The cooler climate allows for a nice long growing season and produces a fleshy, more opulent interpretation of the grape. Planted to clones 4 and 337 on 110R rootstock, the clusters here are smaller due to slightly distressed soils and lower precipitation totals in this section of Napa.

Rafael Vineyard, Oak Knoll, Napa Valley

Rafael Vineyard is a sloping hillside property in Oak Knoll. Being in the southern part of the valley, the temperatures are moderated by the weather patterns coming off San Pablo Bay. These cooling breezes and morning fogs help the grapes retain assertive acids that warmer growing spots cannot match. The vines at Rafael are planted in porous sands and gravel, which forces the roots to work deep into the ground in search of water. This natural devigoration helps produce smaller berries with balanced concentrations of tannins and acidity.

Reverence Vineyard, Napa Valley

Reverence Vineyard is situated in southern Napa's Coombsville/Tulocay area. The 12+ acre vineyard sits on shallow, rocky-gravel soils and is solely focused on growing cooler climate Cabernet Sauvignon. The microclimate, influenced by the cooling breezes and fogs off San Pablo Bay, help grapes assert the classic Cabernet acid/tannin profile. Reverence Vineyard was planted to a variety of clones primarily on 110R rootstock.
